1.
NUN’S ORCHIDS
Because they enjoy
moisture and are
difficult to overwater,
the leafy nun’s orchid
(Phaius
‘Joan Hart’,
far left)
and its equally
lovely hybrid,
Phaiocalanthe, left,
are
among the easiest
orchids for beginners.
2.
CATTLEYA HYBRIDS
Many hybrid
Cattleya
orchids (Burana
Beauty ‘Burana’,
far
left;
Little Fairy ‘Genie’,
left)
can do well
indoors. Place them
near a bright window
and be sure to let
them dry before
watering again.
3. LADY SLIPPERS
Plants from the
Maudiae group
of tropical lady slippers
(
Paphiopedilum
) are
also particularly good
for novices because
they tolerate ample
moisture as well as
the lower light
levels indoors.
4.
MOTH ORCHIDS
The most widely sold
orchid,
Phalaenopsis
is also easy to grow
as long as you let it
dry between waterings.
It tolerates lower light
than most orchids,
giving you more
placement options
in your home. 1®
